Position Title: Consultant - Parenting for Peace Workshop.

Job Station: Katsina State.

Consultant - Parenting for Peace Workshop job opportunity is available at Mercy Corps Nigeria for individuals who possess relevant qualifications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:-

Consultancy Outcomes
From the three-day ToT workshop, the participants should:

  • Gain an understanding of Mercy Corps’ Nigeria CIPP program implementation approach and be able to identify their individual and collective roles within it
  • Recognize and address risk factors for recruitment by violent extremist groups and suspicious behavior, including antisocial behavior and violent dispositions both local and national level
  • Develop skills, and capacity to build resilience of young people to resist violent extremist groups’ tactics and prevent spread of violent extremist ideologies
  • Improve community’s support and parent-child relationship through effective (and regular) communication and create safe spaces for young people to learn life skills.
  • Develop knowledge and confidence to discuss grievances and security concerns to reduce risk of vulnerability to violent extremist tactics.
  • Support participants to develop individual action plan for rolling out plan for step-down training.
  • Basic Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Minimum of Master’s degree in Criminology, Conflict / Peace studies, International development, Law or related field required with training certification in Countering / Preventing Violent Extremism (C / PVE) and peacebuilding.
  • Technical expertise in Countering / Preventing Violent Extremism. He / she must have vast knowledge of a variety of PVE concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong participatory facilitation / training skills and ability to effectively share learning with adult learners.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of sub-groups.
  • Wide knowledge of Nigeria’s conflict context and issues related to violent extremism
  • Fluency in English and capacity to present concise report of the training.

Deliverables

  • He / She will be responsible for the production and adaptation of all training materials that will be used for the three-day ‘Parenting for Peace ToT workshop in close consultation with Mercy Corps program staff.
  • The consultant(s) will serve as the lead trainer at the workshop and will be supported by two other lead trainers working in similar field.
  • He / she will provide technical support in the form of step-by-step guidance to the participants for subsequent follow-up coaching and monitoring sessions with parents and youth influencers.
  • Present a feasible action plan that includes detailed training session plan that outlines the methodologies and materials required to deliver the training within three days of signing the consultancy agreement
  • Develop gender-sensitive training materials that align with the context and can be easily adapted to suit specific community needs with close support from Mercy Corps. ALL training materials developed will subsequently become the property of Mercy Corps.
  • The consultant will adopt an effective facilitation approach that creates an inclusive and learning environment for the participants at the workshop.
  • Participates in the development of cross-learning opportunities and makes recommendations for procedural improvements.
  • All within the contractual periodic, she / he will provide regular remote technical support to the participants, to clarify any approaches, procedures, and practices.
  • She / he will be the lead trainer for the workshop. In addition, she/he will give specific coaching tips to support parents in their local communities.
  • Present a final report with recommendations to inform the design and delivery of similar training in future.

Timeframe / Schedule:

  • Workshop dates: 17th – 19th March, 2021
  • Reports directly to: DCoP CIPP
  • Works closely with: Mercy Corps’ Community Initiatives to Promote Peace (CIPP) Program and M&E Team
  • Location: The operational base of the consultancy will be Katsina State

DESIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION:-

  • Candidates should possess Master’s degree with at least 1 year work experience
