Malaria Consortium received funding to carry out an effectiveness-implementation hybrid project on feasibility and effectiveness of IPTi in Nigeria. It is aimed at generating the required evidence to inform policy and possible scale up of IPTi in Nigeria, and ultimately contribute towards a reduction in under 5 mortalities in the country.
As part of the project activities, formative research is to be conducted in Osun and Ebonyi states, which is aimed at determining the final location of the study site, contextualizing the project sites in terms of EPI coverage, data quality of HMIS, complementary community delivery platforms for IPTi and the identification of sentinel surveillance sites for patient follow up, A gender analysis will be done as part of the formative research.
Addressing gender issues in the design of the project at the inception helps ensure equity in access and benefits for men and women and children. It is hoped that this will ensure that gender influences on malaria as they affect infants is properly captured and considered in the body of evidence to be presented that would aid policy adoption for IPTi.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:-
- Malaria Consortium requires qualified personnel who will conduct a gender analysis as part of the formative research to monitor alignment with project implementation.

Deliverables:
- Conduct gender analysis activities outlining the following:
- Analysis of factors and trends contributing to health seeking and malaria care behaviour impacting infants
- Description of tasks and activities of men and women in study areas
- Description of access and control profile (who has access and control of resources and services and who and how participates in the decision-making).
- Beneficiary targeting (what are the opportunities or entry points to ensure equal participation and benefits. What measures can the project take to address relevant gender gaps/inequalities).
- Project responses (how the project will ensure gender-responsive design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation).
- Prepare a gender analysis report:
- A one-page (bullet point) summary of outputs to be discussed with the project team at assignment completion
- A draft report of results to within 4 days after the assignment completion
- A final report submitted to the project lead within 3 days after receipt of comments on the draft report.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION:-
Essential:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher qualification in a relevant field, such as Sociology, Ecology, Economics, Gender Studies, Gender & Development, Environment, Sustainable Development or closely related area.
- Minimum of 2 years of practical working experience in gender mainstreaming.
- At least 2 years of gender consultancy/expert services for national level institutions and/or reputable international organization(s), including at least some experience in Nigeria and/or the sub-region.
Desired:
- Ability to analyze policy documents and make constructive policy suggestions;
- Strong interpersonal skills, communication and diplomatic skills, ability to work in a team;
- Good writing and reporting skills;
- Good presentation skills.
- Proven academic experience, including pieces of research, publications and written reports
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English.
