Position Title: Translator (French To English).

INTRODUCTION :-

Translator (French To English) job opportunity is available at Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) for individuals who possess Master’s Degree in Translation or Interpretation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :-

The responsibilities of the position include particularly (but are not limited to):

  • He or she will be responsible for reproducing conversations in another language for the audience’s understanding,
  • Listens, understands and translates spoken and written conversations from English to French and vice versa,
  • Coordinates the translation tasks of members of other translation teams before they are submitted,
  • Translate texts from English into French or from French into English in various fields,
  • Translate and interpret a variety of subjects at the same time, while guaranteeing a high level of accuracy, professionalism, faithfulness to the spirit and style of the source language,
  • Edit, standardize, revise and finalize texts translated by other employees and contractual translators,
  • Develop translation tools while ensuring standards of clarity, conciseness, style, etc.,
  • Prepare project reports and documentation,
  • Develop legal, technical and scientific glossaries relating to projects in progress,
  • Consult experts in specialized fields to develop specialized knowledge in these fields for translation,
  • Advise users and members of the English/French translation team on issues related to habits, cultures and protocol uses,
  • Develop instructions and reference and a maintenance manual for the translation team,
  • Prepare guidance documentation and project support systems.
  • Reporting line: The Translator reports to the Head of Division of Information and Communication Technologies

DESIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION :-

  • Master’s Degree in Translation or Interpretation;
  • Five (5) years progressive experience in Translation/Interpretation in an international Organization;
  • Technical competencies: This position requires the candidate to have excellent experience in technical translation;
  • Writing: Communicate effectively in writing with others as required by the reader/audience;
  • Information gathering and research: Know how to find information and identify the essential ones;
  • Information organization: Structure, organize and classify the various pieces of information;
  • Practical learning: Use new materials or information to generate implications in translation;
  • Professional secrecy;
  • Use of Computer-Assisted Translation tools, preferably SDL Trados Studio 2019;
  • Maximum age: 45 years

The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) was established on 22 May 1964 in N’Djamena, Republic of Chad.  The Commission was established upon recognizing the need to formulate principles of the use of resources of the Basin for economic purposes, including the harnessing of water resources. The mandate of the Commission is to sustainably and equitably manage the Lake Chad and other shared water resources of the Lake Chad Basin, preserve the ecosystems of the Lake Chad Conventional Basin, to promote regional integration, peace and security across the Basin.
